XT-19

Post by Alv »

We made some samples of an XT-19 to evaluate. It makes a fine double (the XT-21 did too), and it is too much boat to be a solo. For now, the XT-19 is available as a complete double with a rudder installed for $2200.

Do you have any pics or posted data on the XT-19s? Getting a lot of requests for kayak recommendations on some of the other paddling forums and I would like to be able to pass along information about them.

I don't think we have taken any pictures yet, but it is really just a 22 inches longer XT-17. Where the XT-17 is cramped for two paddlers, the XT-19 feels generous for two adults.

Brilliant! Congratulations on your new tandem, Alv. If it’s the same width as the original XT 17 at only 24 inches, it must be the fastest folding tandem kayak available by a comfortable margin :)

Alv, this might be a little off-topic but I'm wondering how viable it might be for Pakboats to make custom-size kayaks for individual paddlers. For instance, I'm 5'9" 165#. I'd like and would probably fit a Quest-type kayak about 16-16.5' long with a 22-23" beam (approximate). Could Pakboats make such a kayak? I know it would cost more since it's custom-size, but I'm just wondering how viable it might be for Pakboats to offer such custom-size kayaks.

Your idea would require a significant redesign of everything we do. Our hulls are welded together out of 2 sides and a bottom panel, and we don't have equipment to do this in-house. Also, we do not have the expertise to do the kind of customizing you ask for.

Our production is based on building quite a few units in a factory environment. Doing that, we can keep production cost competitive even with one of our people on site during production, but our production makes customizing impossible.
