 Post subject: Fujita AL 400 C clips

Just had to abandon a night trip along the beautiful west coast of the island of Ischia before I even put the kayak in the water. Was really looking forward to it too...Unlike Feathercraft, my Fujita uses tubular aluminium bulkheads to help keep the weight down to 12 kg. These attach to the stringers with screw-in HDPE C clips. Unfortunately, as I've just discovered on only my 4th outing in a new kayak, these C clips can also unscrew when ywou're not looking :'( The lessons learnt are to put loctite on the threads, check them regularly, and take a screwdriver and spare screws with you! To top it all, the last ferry backr to Naples is half an hour late and still no sign of it.Drat and double drat.

Carefully evaluate the frame, and consider if the following could work -

As part of your emergency repair supplies, perhaps take along a few metres of thin, braided nylon (or a capable synthetic) cord to use for Lashing (eighth-inch / 2 or 3 mm diameter ... it's usually a supple, hollow flat braided product). Understand, this would require the paddler to have a knife or scissors to cut the lashing to length. Don't keep it on a spool, but keep it looped in a clear plastic bag. Look Online for Skin-on-Frame Lashing techniques. You'll also want to keep a short hardwood dowel which would be used as a handle to apply tension. This would be rather inexpensive, lightweight and compact for stowage. Other emergency needs might benefit from the same product.

Thanks Kenton, good idea. I know it as artificial sinew and will look for some to add to my spare bolts and screw driver
