Idon't know exactly where to put this topic :)
I watch a beautifull tv reportage on Dirk Rohrbach,a man who sailed on the Yukon in canoe. Yeah, i know canoƫ aren't kayak :) But he make his boat with help of a man who still knows how to build it with birch bark ! !! It's in French but look at it, it's awesome. You can if you want go at 11:29 mn the start of the built :)

You might also be interested in a book by John McPhee titled The Survival of the Bark Canoe. Bark-on-frame construction but not exactly a folder except, maybe, in very rough water.
