Lighter Boat For A Big Guy

Post by JohnSand »

I own three Folbots, and like them. But I often use one on our local beach, down a forty step staircase. And I originally bought them to fly with annually, but they are a hassle in the airport. So, I'm considering lighter boats. Under 30#, packed in one bag. I am 6'5", 230# which adds to the challenge.
I am aware of Pakboats and Scubi XL. I don't want Oru or any other corrugated plastic boat. The boat doesn't have to be expedition capable, but should be more than a beach toy. I previously owned a cheap inflatable which was alright, but bent under my weight. Some reviews of the lighter Pakboats indicate that they might be too light for me. I think I remember a recent startup being reported on this forum, but I can't locate it. Any first hand reports or suggestions are welcome.

Have you tried a Yukon?
Compared to lugging the Gll bag it's a nice surprise.
"Yakadoodle" ...I had to come up with some name since Steve already stole my name!

Yes, I own a Yukon and like it. But hauling it up and down four flights of stairs is no day at the beach. :)
