After a few years with a heavy, molded plastic kayak from a discount store, I've decided that I love kayaking and that I want to buy something better. Folding kayaks look like the best option, but I don't know much about them, so at this point I'm just trying to educate myself. The Pakboat Saranac looks appealing, since it can convert to a two-seater, but I'm open to anything.

Welcome Woodbury, you will find lots of friendly and knowledgable advice here. Searching for the right folder can be confusing but if you take the challenge with the right attitude it can also be a lot of fun. Most importantly...how do you expect to use your kayak and what kind of budget have you set?

Best,
g

I'll be kayaking on Lakes Superior and Michigan on calm days, local lakes and rivers - nothing too extreme. I'm trying to spend less than 1500 including paddles.

Hello, Woodbury,

While I cannot help much with which folder brand to buy I am somewhat versed in Folbot through the years beginning in the late 1990s. I'll be glad to help you decide should to look for a used one.
