A Folbot leeboard did not want to rotate around the crosstube. I disassembled the flange to see if I could diagnose the problem. A spring-loaded ball bearing popped out of a cylindrical hole in the flange. I had a devil of a time finding it. Later I found a second one. And a coil spring. Does anyone have experience with this? In what order do the three components go into the hole? I'm thinking it's spring/ball bearing/ball bearing, but I cannot compress the spring with the ball bearings and hold all in place while I replace the flange.

I don't have access to mine at the moment but if I recall correctly the mechanism functions as a slip clutch with a fixed plate having detents and a rotating plate also with detents. The spring loaded bearings hold the leeboard in position when seated in the detents and allow it to rotate when sufficient force to compress the spring is applied. This would lead me to believe the order should be bearing, spring, bearing. A photo would help but based on your description it would seem spring, bearing, bearing would result in a spring seated in a detent, a bearing not bearing on anything and a bearing in a detent. If you want to wait until next week to fix it I will bring my biggest hammer. Earl

Thanks for the tip, oldkayaker. I'll give that a try.
