That's probably the easy option as it seems to be what everyone else does. There are probably a few of us facebook refuseniks who'd prefer a different solution (anything that doesn't feed Facebook with *more* of people's information) but as I'm not technical enough to know what that would be I guess I'm not really in a position to suggest anything better.
It *would* be nice to have the photo gallery back. :-)

I stand justly accused, I am a Facebook refusenik. But if that is the easiest solution I would make an exception. Just this once.

As Chuck knows, I'm on FB a good deal. However, I think it's not a good idea to split out discussion between here and there, which is what would happen. I stand by my suggestion of an open Flickr account. Capacity might be very limited, though, so suggestions for better options are very welcome.

Flickr vs. Picasa, but don't know whether this comparison is current.

Creating a Facebook account would probably mean that the forum would gradually move entirely to Facebook, and while that would lessen my work here, it would also mean that Facebook would own all our material, and people would have to join Facebook to participate.

I like the Flick/Picassar idea, although that would probably also require more administration work. Anyone wanna volunteer to work on that? I'll see what's required.

Both Flickr and Picasa have storage limits and ads. I have more or less unlimited storage on the server that this forum is running on (and that I'm already paying for!) What I need is a system that allows members to post photos but that doesn't require constant administration and is a lot less hackable than the software I was using previously.

I've decided to do a Flickr group and see how that works. What Ill do is set up a forum item where members can request group membership- hopefully later today or tomorrow,

Stand by...

I've moved the account request item to the top of the general discussion section. I forgot that the admin section is locked, so only admins can post there.

thank you for the invite. Unless I am missing something, very possible, it seems that in order to join one needs a yahoo account. A yahoo account? I haven't used main in more than 8 years... :(

Any other suggestions to join?

Thank you.

As far as I know, that's the only way to post photos in Flickr. But it's a free account. The alternative is Picasa, which belongs to Google, or for me to set up another photo system on Dreamiest, which will require me to do even more security and membership accounting...
