reduce speed in hard wave/wind from aft

Paddling technique, boat packing technique, anything having to do with how to use a piece of equipment (except sailing, which has its own section).

on a sailer i will use a loop-cable - maybe with a tire - to reduce the speed.

but sitting in a kajak?

under surfing condition i am concentrating to paddle without capsizing and do not have the time to check the entry of save bays with binoculares.

what do you do to bring about the kayak

Hannes,

You brought back some scary memories of a trip I did under sail in big winds and following seas. My only recourse was to reef sale and use my paddle as a rudder. There was an interesting discussion that followed by folks on this discussion board who had experience with sea drogues. You might want to search for that, and add to the conversation.

Best,
