2007 Folbot Cooper questions

Post by Icantswim »

Hello,

I am looking at buying a Cooper. It is either an 06 or an 07 model. Is there anything good or bad with these model years? Any advice will help since I've never owned a folding kayak before. Price is $ 850.00 CDN.

Thanks!

That's a great price for a Cooper unless it's all beat up.
There were some improvements on the earliest Coopers, mostly to do with stiffening the frame.
Unfortunately that info was lost when Folbot killed the Folbot forum without warning - no backup.
You can go to The Wayback Machine to see if there is any useful info on the Cooper. The most recent almost full archive is from the mid 2000s. I'll need to look again to get the exact date. I"ll post it here when I find it.

The Cooper hasn't been set up for 2 years but photos of it in 2014 show it to be in nice shape. Thanks for the info.

I have an original 2004 Cooper with the TPU skin that I use regularly and it has held up very well. i purchased a "stiffener" for the stern a couple of years later. That became standard in later years so it might be present on the one you are looking at. I bought an upgraded seat in 2008 but that never became standard so you might not have it. The absence of either the stiffener or the seat should not be a deal breaker if the Cooper is in good condition.
