Folbot factory paddles

Post by treewater »

Perhaps someone can enlighten me. I have a factory paddle with a Citibot and a Kodiak. First impression is : "those are the clunkiest paddles I have ever seen." They are sturdy and they work but not like a typical kayak paddle, say one you bought from Airkayaks.
Am I missing something?

You aren't missing anything. The" Folbot" paddles I've seen have all been extremely clunky. My advice is to sell it at a yard sale and put the money towards a better paddle. If you need a breakdown paddle for travel, Airkayak has some Cannon 4-piece ones on sale. I bought a carbon shaft "Wave" model last year from them and have been happy with it.

I have four of those clunky factory paddles in various lengths.
I've kept them as backup paddles and loaners.
They work as a paddle if you aren't going far or fast.
They also work pretty well as a shovel if you have to move some wet sand. :)

Dave AvRutick spent most of his tenure as owner trying to cut a deal with a paddle maker to be able to offer a decent paddle with a Folbot for around $100. He never succeeded.

I'd say keep them for backup.

Thanks. Too bad Folbot could not get a better paddle. It might have made a difference.

I don't think the paddle was a major problem for Folbot. Good 4-piece kayak paddles are not hard to find. Certainly, boat manufacturers can have 4-piece versions of common paddles made by ordering a few at a time. We started with two models from Aqua-Bound, and over the last few years we have had several from Cannon and Accent. I am sure Eric had more immediate issues to deal with.
