Hi everyone,

I just bought a (what looks like) 1963 Folbot Super folding 16' tandem:

https://m.ebay.com/itm/1963-Folbot-Fold ... 8466904006

Does it have sponsons? If they leak, can I use plumbing PVC glue to repair, or what kind of glue should I use (and where can I find such glue, Home Depot?)?

I would also highly appreciate it, if you can let me know other common points of failure and how to repair them.

Thank you very much!

The photo looks like you have bought a nice Folbot. No it dosn,t have sponsons.. Folbot didn,t bring these in until quite late in the latter half of the 20th century, I don,t know the exact date. If the fabric is ok or it is vinyl treat it with the appropriate 303, check which one is best. The wood might need marine or outdoor varnish, experienced members with older Folbots may be able to give better answers.

Thank you very much, John. Your are very kind and helpful.

Do you happen to know what to use to replace broken frame connectors/rivets? Will some off-the-shelf rivets from common hardware stores work?

Thank you again!

Received it this afternoon. Parts seem to be in good shape, though I have not assembled it or test it.

It seems to weight around 86 lbs. That total weight would make it difficult to car top by myself. But hey, that is why I bought a folder!

Looks like with some work you'll have a nice boat.
Hardware store rivets are not very strong. You might want to consider brass nuts and bolts.

Sponsons were introduced in the new Greenland II in 1990.

Thank you very much, flatwater.

Yes, my Folbot does have brass connectors and no sponson. All in good shape too, fortunately.
