A real surprise move from a traditional manufacturer!
I really would like to see the details of the connections.

The small catamaran is like a toy... but a cat based on two BACKYAK´s, or maybe a trimaran, one kayak + a pair of long narrow take-apart amas could really be cool.

Greetings longi... Finland must be amazing to discover from your Klepper...

In its long history since 1907 Klepper has already manufactured 'hardshells'... the BACKYAK is actually much closer to the core Klepper philosophy of freedom and mobility - but with modern materials and a different type of assembly, in addition to versatility! You can read about the development of the BACKYAK idea here - http://www.backyak.de/index.php/en/back ... klepper-en. The University Professor and his students who had the idea for this project proved once more that German engineering and ingenuity are truly amazing.

Greetings to you in Sweden MoeJoe, your blog is fantastic... life is meant for living :-)

To answer some of your questions:

(1) weights, measurements and specs: http://www.backyak.de/index.php/en/back ... /lightness
(2) yes, there are spraycovers and full covers when paddling positions are not in use: http://www.backyak.de/index.php/en/spraycover
(3) for prices the BACKYAK is currently on pre-order and full details are to come. In this German article there is mention of some prices, but these do not include shipping and the like and also includes the European 19% MwSt.: http://www.kanumagazin.de/test-technik/ ... offerboot/

Hope this is helpful.

All the best from Canada

Weight is impressively low for a tandem, and considering the material is carbon fibre, price is quite reasonable, I'd say. Since it's a Klepper, one would expect the quality to be high and the support good as well. I'm sure many will be attracted by the simple assembly, compared to most "traditional folders". Looks like a real winner.
