I use a Kayaksailor kit on my Big Kahuna and often go out alone. I am nervous about re-entry since I am not excellent at it yet, even without the sail kit which would likely make it even more demanding. One person on this forum suggested I try external sponsons (such as the Harmony sea kayak Sponsons) to both stabilize the kayak while under sail as well as assisting if re-entry is required. My question is: have any of you used external sponsons on your Feathercraft? If so, how have you found them? Is this a better idea than amas/outriggers which will be a bit more difficult to mount on the folding kayaks?

Thank you for your thoughts and experiences! I am dreaming about next summer already!

FC used to sell short inflatable "sponsons" to attach at both sides of the cockpit. If I recall correctly they were called Sea Wings. The idea I suppose, was to provide additional stability in rough seas. These aren't on FC's site anymore, but you could always ask if have a pair for sale or will be willing to make one for you.

The Sea Wings were actually for self-rescue. I had a set for one of my boats.

I see that Folding Kayak Adventures is having a liquidation sale which includes sponsons for the Big Kahuna priced at $71. Check the Deals Found on this forum for more info.
