Delaminating deck

Post by treecutter »

The deck material on my 1999 Klondike has started to delaminate. The teal green is cracking and flaking off showing a layer of white. I was wondering if anybody has had this happen and if so, what steps were taken to correct it. Many thanks for reading.

I have had two Klondikes and one Khatsalano from the same vintage, late 1990s, exhibit the same symptoms of delamination on their decks. I also have noticed that hairline cracks show up a couple of months before the deck material starts delaminating. Every season, I discover new cracks of delaminating deck material that needs patching.

I successfully have covered these small areas of delamination with Aquaseal and Cotol. In one larger area, I had to apply a patch of deck material from the Feathercraft repair kit. These patches are not aesthetically pleasing, but at least they keep the deck waterproof, and the boat is seaworthy.

I've been wondering if there is some type of flexible paint/coating with the properties of aqua seal that would cover the entire deck. That would look aesthetically pleasing............ I have also used aqua seal but it looks terrible and new cracks are constantly forming.
