sealing hull seam on older klepper?

Post by overland »

I brought my old hull to a marine canvas shop today to have the side seams resewn--these are the seams that attach the narrow add-on pieces on each side of older hulls. (I started doing this myself by hand but realized it would take me years to finish.) When I get it back I'll have to seal the seam in some way. Any suggestions? The hull is Hypalon.

Just tried some Freesole, a toluene based "urethane formula" for "shoe repair" on a small nick in my Hypalon hull. It seems to adhere pretty well. Haven't tried Aquaseal, which I think can be found at REI. Has anyone tried using these materials on their hull?

Just to report: Clyde at NRS suggests Aquaseal for sealing seams and small nicks on Hypalon. He also suggests roughing up the surface first. In any case, NRS is a good resource. It sells CSM (Hypalon) boats and some materials that could be used as patching material and wear strips. It also has information about repairing CSM.
