I have recently seen on the Canadian Klepper dealers site (Auto marine in Calgary) that he will be selling the Torqeedo electric outboard with a new high performance battery, there are spares of course, mains chargers, and what looks like something up my street a solar charger which will charge the battery while it is being used, a little large but i could rig it up. The endurance of a fully charged battery is pretty good. I hope to get the prices after the holidays, no doubt they won,t be cheap, quality never is. The smallest outboard is said to be equal to 1hp which should be ideal.

The Torqueedo has been tried on a Nautiraid GR II 540, as you can see on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayPJ2HPh3I0 Ain't cheap (half the price of the boat !) and the battery go for 30 min at full throttle, so you have to be cool on the gas if you don't want to run out of watts ! Quite efficient, though. It was mounted on the Nautiraid Rudder with the blade cut in half.

HALF the price of the boat!, they won,t sell many of of those. The web site for the motor gives a lot more endurance, know doubt i will only read about them.

The Torqueedo has been mentioned a few times on the Hobie forum. I wasn't paying too much attention, but there seems to be a feeling there that it's a better motor than Hobie's own Evolve. Anyone seriously interested in an electric motor might find it a useful forum to browse:

Mary, I wanted to thank you for turning me onto the Hobie outrigger. I purchased a set and opened them today. Very nice quality. Thanks.

John, I seem to remember the 1HP Torqueedo going for around $1800. There may be a less expensive version if you don't need the throttle head and such. Pretty neat though. Check out the website: http://www.torqeedo.com/us/
