Is there enough space to have a bow paddler to be comfortable and able to paddle without the boom being in their chest (especially a chesty wife) or face when the sail is fully deployed?

If you use the mast hole on the coaming what can be added to it to keep water out when not used for sailing?

How often do you use the Expedition spray cover for both sailing or paddling? How hard is it to get inside when you are 6 ft tall and weigh 240?

Hi Frank,

I met a very nice couple that sailed a Mark II with the kayaksailor; maybe they will chime in on the topic. I sailed in the front seat of their boat once and don't remember the boom hitting me in any of it's traverses. I don't think I would have been able to paddle with the sail deployed though. As I remember they were very happy with the Kayaksailor and the MKII combination with two persons on board.

If you're going to sail, tell Mark and he will put a mast sleeve on your spray skirt. I used mine (spray skirt w sleeve) once with the kayaksailor and although it wasn't a perfect solution it worked. The sleeve is really designed for a mast to slip through. When the mast isn't used you fold the sleeve over on itself and tie it closed.

I almost never use my spray skirt because I tend to climb all around the boat all the time. The times that I have used it didn't present any problems either getting in or out of the boat. There are quite a few people here that use the spray skirts all the time. I think it's one of those things that you get better at using the more you do it.

Check out the video in "Letters from the Black Sea" by DoiNomazi below in the Long Haul column. Lots of MKII footage with the spray skirt on.
