DW Marathon entry

Post by Fatfrog »

Brothers Chris and Joe Maynard will enter the Devizes to Westminster marathon in England next month with a specially designed race Nautiraid. It's a Grand Narak without stabilairs and carbon race seats. The challenge is to beat the folding class outright record : 23hr 26 min which stands since 1961 ! The DW marathon is a non-stop 201 km / 77 portages race which is to my knowledge the only one in the world with a folding kayak class. Chris and Joe are raising funds for two charities, The Royal Marines Charity and the Spinal Atrophy Charity.

Thanks for this. I've never done the DW, but I was on the river Thames a couple of years ago when it came past. It was quite an experience. (Helped by a passing thunderstorm at the same time.)
I wouldn't be breaking any records, but I'd love to have a go at it one day.

Marathon cancelled due to covid-19 ! But the boat stays in the UK for another attempt in 2020 (if there isn't covid-20...)
