Kayaks down the Nile
He's an interesting video about the first people to kayak down the Nile. They used Chauveau kayaks (the name of the company before it changed to Nautiraid). Two French men and an American.

Good on you for posting!
It's worth the time to do a search on John Goddard.
I think he invented the "bucket list"!

"Yakadoodle" ...I had to come up with some name since Steve already stole my name!

I bought the book many years ago. Still have it. i seem to recall that their biggest problem was not the Crocs, but the Hippos.

Yep, Hippos, pirates and irate locals who thought they were Israeli spies.

Another book that I found to be a good read: Down the Nile: Alone in a fisherman’s skiff by Rosemary Mahoney.

I finally found a few minutes to watch this and especially enjoyed the part where they explore an Egyptian temple by kayak.

Re: Kayaks down the Nile
Haha, that was in your to-watch list for a while
But, yes, the whole thing was fascinating. River pirates, being taken captive because locals thought they were Israeli spies, the villages on the upper portions of the trip, the flooded temples. And then the guy said that he was sick for a couple of years afterwards due to a blood-borne illness... :/ The American guy went on to do lots more adventures, but I never read anything more about his 2 French companions. I wonder if they also went on to have other adventures?

I bought the book, it's a great read.
Coincidentally, I was watching "African Queen" on tv last night. Filmed in the same locale and same year.
