I just tried sitting in a 460 Expedition, and my hips scraped the sides of the cockpit, which is quite narrow (15.5 inches), while wearing normal clothes. I didn't think much about it until I started reading about entanglement accidents (kayaks in general). I like the 460 a lot and have a chance to get a good deal on one. But now I'm wondering about safety.

I have a CD Storm (plastic), which has a cockpit 17.5 inches wide and seems OK. I started kayaking nine months ago and have about 40 hours experience. I am quite interested in getting a foldable even though I love my Storm.

Anyone have an comments on the safety of the Nautiraid narrow cockpit for someone 5'11" and 210 lbs ?

Thanks.
