REF: What Model and vintage? I inherited my brothers 15 foot long, wooden frame (marked XSS1H on the wooden bow member in black ink) Nautiraid Kayak. The hull is a butyl like rubber l(ike my 90's Feathercrafts and Kleppers). The top is a rubberized cloth material in red with 20 tie down rings and a rope running through them, 2 larger rings: front and back of cockpit, A stout riveted handle on top of stern and bow of skin. What can you tell me about this kayak? Is there a parts diagram including all rudder parts? Model? Approximate year? A very well made kayak. It will handle my Arctic River travels in Alaska just fine. Thanks. Mike Zika

Hi Mike,

It’d help if you could post some photos via photobucket or whatever you prefer. Failing that, you could also ask Nautiraid directly

K1xpd’s boat looks like the Raid 1 I owned in the early 2000s.

Thank you Michael. Part of my brothers estate. I have 2 Feathercraft Expeditions so will sell this. Hoping Nautiraid will get back to me with the model and year and a source for parts list and assembly instructions to supply to buyer. They did contact me just now. I was able to get SN's to them of skin and frame. It is a good kayak. It does not have the robust frame design of the single Klepper but it's pretty good. It would be more difficult to pack 30 days worth of supplies inside compared to the K1 but the tie downs on top are so well layed out you could tie gear on top if it was not to windy or rough.

That is a Raid 14 made for Baidarka Boats in Sitka, Alaska during the 1990s

Thanks tsunamichuck,

Nautiraid google search pointed me to:

Ian Thomson
Director, Nestaway Boats Ltd

Telephone 0800 999 2535 (free from UK landlines)
Mobile 07768 600595

Have been waiting for a response from them.

How did you identify Model and the customer in Sitka?

Could you tell me what you know about this model. Pros and Cons for touring, quality, hull design, frame design, availability of parts, support from Nautiraid? I have not used a Nautiraid. I own Feathercraft K1's and have expeditions and Klepper singles and doubles.

Would appreciate it.

Mike

I have a green one. Overall, most comfortable kayak I have ever been in. Pretty durable

Just heard from Nautiraid: Seemingly it took some trawling back through quite old (paper) records to find this. They don't have an invoice but by inference it's a 1996-built Raid 460 to the higher Expedition specification.

That model was discontinued some while ago so they don't have instructions etc, certainly not in an easily-accessible format. 23 years ago is long before everything was on computer... If you think parts are missing then it's probably best to send the whole thing back to the factory, (for a fee) they could almost certainly work out how to build it and what if anything is missing.
