DIY inflatable boats and materials

Post by KerryOnKayaks »

Not kayaks, but packrafts. This company sells kits and patterns for lightweight inflatable packrafts (like the Alpacka rafts that Feathercraft used to sell). The bulk materials and components that they sell could be used to design and build your own boat designs or to enhance or repair an inflatable or folder that you already have. They are the only source I have found to date for complete Boston valve assemblies, the kind used on Pakboat kayak sponsons and many types of rafts. Lots of places sell the "male" half of the valves but nobody else has the whole thing with the "female" part that is glued into the inflatable skin.

Boatpark sells lots of different valves - and the wrenches you need to get them on/off

They also sell nitrilon and hypalon fabric off the roll, as well as the glues that you would need

Getting the complete Boston valve assembly that is used on Pakboats inflatable parts may not solve your problem. Getting a reliable bond between valve and fabric with adhesive is difficult (or impossible). A much easier solution will be to get the repair patches that we hope to have in stock soon. The patch will consist of a 3" diameter piece of fabric with the valve part welded on at the center, so there will be a much larger surface area for the adhesive to work on.

Another good resource in EU is:
TPU and TiZips (which seem almost impossible to buy).
