Has anyone tried to make a gasket around the coaming similar to the one used on the Trak 1600? I am skinning the deck on a somewhat modified Tom Yost kayak and would like to use a similar gasket around coaming. I am most interested in the type material used for the gasket.

Thanks, Tom

Got Nitrile 1/16". x 36" x 72" Commercial Grade 60A Buna sheet from HomeDepot at a reasonable price so am giving that a try. I have cut the gasket and it looks good so far. Will post how it turns out.

Hi Tom,
Sounds like an interesting project. If you have any pictures you'd like to share I expect I'm not alone in being interested.
In any case good luck with it (and sorry that I have no experience of the Trak 1600 gasket, so can't answer your question).
Ian

The 1/16" Nitrile worked! I will take and post pictures when we get a nice day.

Here are a few pics. Two of the frame and some of the seal around the coaming
