What is the best Kayak/Canoe dolly/cart for folding kayaks

Post by kleppermaster »

I have 2 Klepper kayaks and one Old Town wooden canoe. I am looking for a good cart to transport these boats from the car to the water. The kayaks are 1 Klepper Aerius II Expedition & 1 Klepper Aerius I expedition. The canoe is a 16' 1972 Old Town cedar and canvas.

The cart will be used on sand, rocks, gravel and possibly mud.

Klepper sells 2. One is a more basic one. the other is both a dolly for carrying the bagged parts and as a cart for the assembled boat. This one is more than I need. I am not wedded to Klepper sold carts. I don't think they make them anyway. They just re-sell them.

What should I get?

I like the Perception- in fact, I have two. The latest version has foam filled wheels that won’t go flat.

I have gone through several carts and my favorite is wheeleez. The "pro": they go easily through and over anything, especially the ones with large tires. The combination of large footprint and low tire pressure make it easy to push or pull a heavy boat like your A2 Exp. over sand or uneven surfaces. They are well made. The "con" is that they are stupid expensive, even when you wait for their 20% off sale, which happens fairly often. I can only rationalize the price when I consider how easy the cart is on my old back and shoulder. Thats my $.02,
