Cell Phone or GoPro Mount?

Paddling technique, boat packing technique, anything having to do with how to use a piece of equipment (except sailing, which has its own section).

Cell Phone or GoPro Mount?

Post by Rob »

Have any of you made or purchased a mount for a cell phone or GoPro for your kayak?

I'm interested in possibly videotaping a trip or two, and specifically have a Feathercraft kayak, so want to see how you go about that, without just strapping something under a bungee cord.

Of course, perhaps that works just fine too if you have some sort of base mount to attach them to, like made out of high-density styrofoam, rubber, or other materials.

Consider that cells phones are not, as a rule, waterproof ;-). You can get a reconditioned GoPro 3 pretty cheaply on eBay, as well as various waterproof cases and mounts.

Thanks for the info. That does sound like a better idea.

I have a cheap/free cell phone, so am not too worried about it, but the GoPro does sound like a better option.

How do you mount it to the kayak, or are you just wearing it on your hat/head?

Depends on the kayak, but GoPro and others make a wide variety of mounts for the basic waterproof case.
