Vintage Folbot Found in Scout Shed!

Post by djknoop »

Cleaning out the Boy Scout Troop storage shed a few weeks back we finally had a chance to check out the "canoe" hanging in the rafters.
Nobody knows anything about this, other than it was "donated a while ago."
So I found my way here and hope you are willing to share some knowledge with us.

It is a really charming little boat and the boys were quite taken by the two part wooden paddle.

The covering is pretty brittle but the wood looks to be in good shape.

Questions:
What should I look for to correctly ID it - serial number or etc. someplace?
Is there a link to an original catalog so we can see what it might have looked like new, I kind of doubt that cover is original.

Thanks in advance, I will continue reading through the forum to learn more.
We are not very likely to rehab the boat and probably going to sell it to fund Troop activities - like our summer canoe trip down the Allegheny River!

Sporty or a Sporty Jr., I would guess, depending on length.

Welcome aboard!
The deck looks original to me. There is a Folbot Owner's Facebook Page too, they have some catalogs in their files. I'm sure you can identify that boat.
Good luck with it, let us know what you learn.

Thank you for your help, I'll take a dive in and see if we can ID this little guy, will get measurements and see what we're looking at.
It doesn't "feel" like it would be 15' long for sure so I guess that puts it in the "Sporty Jr." range to me.
